Superflow 902S Dyno
How does your engine measure up?
The SF-902S dyno is built for efficiency and precision. It has a floor-mounted absorber stand and a roll-around engine docking cart, making it easy to switch engines quickly. This setup is ideal for high-volume environments, where you might be testing multiple engines in a day. The docking cart allows you to pre-stage and dress the engines before rolling them into the test cell, connecting everything up, and clamping it down for testing.
A key feature of the SF-902S is its high-speed sealed bearings in the absorber, which can handle extended testing at speeds over 12,000 RPM without needing oil lubrication. The dyno is also equipped with advanced data acquisition systems. We use the WinDyn software, which is connected to a robust sensor box that gathers all the data during the test. The system can measure everything from engine speed and torque to pressures and temperatures, making it possible to fine-tune every aspect of engine performance.
The dyno’s cooling system is also impressive. It replaces the engine’s radiator with a cooling tower that keeps the engine’s temperature stable during testing, which is crucial for accurate results. We can control the water flow to manage the load precisely, and there’s even an option for pressurized cooling towers if we need to run the engine at higher temperatures or with antifreeze.
In terms of safety and maintenance, the SF-902S has numerous features to keep things running smoothly and securely. The system includes filters to keep the water clean, and there are regular maintenance checks to ensure everything is operating correctly. We’re talking about a setup that’s not only about getting the horsepower numbers but also about making sure the engine is fully vetted and reliable before it goes into a vehicle.
This dyno is a critical tool in the shop, allowing us to simulate real-world conditions and ensure that every engine is up to spec before it hits the road. Whether it’s a high-performance race engine or a newly rebuilt motor, the SF-902S lets us push it to the limit in a controlled environment.

Unleash the Full Potential of Your Engine
At Skip White Performance, we take pride in ensuring that every engine we build is not only powerful but also reliable and finely tuned. One of the most important services we offer to achieve this level of precision is our comprehensive dyno tuning process. This service is crucial in optimizing engine performance and safeguarding against potential issues that could arise after installation.
The Dyno Tuning Process
Our dyno tuning process begins with an initial warm-up phase where the engine is run at a fast idle to bring oil and water temperatures to their optimal levels. This is followed by a 20-minute run under a simulated load at approximately 3,000 RPM. This initial phase is critical for promoting the proper seating of piston rings and ensuring a solid foundation for the engine's performance.
After this, we perform a detailed inspection, including checking spark plug readings and looking for any possible leaks. This step is part of the engine's first heat cycle, and it allows us to address any early issues that might arise. The engine then undergoes multiple low to medium RPM runs, which further the break-in process of all moving parts. During these runs, we closely monitor key indicators such as Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT), vacuum pump readings, oil temperature and pressure, coolant temperature, and overall engine sound.
Once the break-in phase is complete, we move into the actual dyno tuning. This process focuses on refining the air-to-fuel ratio and optimizing ignition timing to achieve peak horsepower and torque. We often adjust the carburetor jetting, idle circuits, and air-bleeds to fine-tune the engine's performance. The final result is an engine that not only meets but exceeds our rigorous performance standards.
Why Dyno Tuning Matters
Choosing to have your engine dyno-tuned is one of the best investments you can make in its performance and longevity. A dyno-tuned engine runs at its absolute best, with precise fuel and timing settings that maximize power and efficiency while minimizing the risk of damage. This process also validates that the engine is in perfect operating condition, catching any potential issues before they become problems.
We take great care in this process, dedicating approximately five man-hours, and utilizing around $25 worth of fuel, oil, and filters, as well as our $105K SuperFlow dyno equipment, to ensure that each engine is finely tuned to perfection. The cost of dyno tuning is kept affordable because we believe that delivering a perfectly tuned engine not only gives us peace of mind but also provides our customers with the highest level of satisfaction.
